A few days ago we posted on our Facebook page and asked the members what are some questions they have about the AKA Convention.  Here is a few of the ones along with answers.  By the way, did you know we have a pretty cool FAQ page that answers some common questions we hear.
Q: Why do I need to register if I am only single line flying a kite or two?
A: The convention is unlike any other festival. It is a gathering of kite fliers for kite fliers, with a big focus on kitebuilding competition, stunt kite competition, and the opportunity to learn the tips and tricks of some of the top folks in the kite world. Think of it like a week long kite making workshop mixed in with constant partying and all of the perks of a kite festival, plus extra shenanigans that you don’t see anywhere else.
Q: Can someone pick me up in Baltimore on Monday?
19291554_438997159803289_800200489403678720_nA: I bet someone can! Did you know that there is an event page on Facebook for coordinating ride shares, housing, etc…?  You can find the event page by either scanning this QR code or clicking this link 2017 AKA Convention – Grand Nationals
For those of you not on Facebook, shoot a message to the president @ aka.kite.org and let them know you are looking to coordinate and they will post it in the event page for you.
While we are on the subject of coordinating, we also want to talk about encouraging. Why not let your fellow kite fliers know that you are attending, and what you plan on doing there. Are you a competitor? Have you never competed before? Do you have questions about what it takes to enter a kite in the kitebuilding competition? Some of the best motivation we can get is to tell others what we are interested in, and they will in turn encourage us to try! So… go try!

Q: Can someone comp me a registration!?
A: Okay, we know this one was written as a pleas in order to find a kite angel, however it does bring up a good point. If you wanted to be an angel for someone and buy their registration for them, can you do that? The answer is yes. Because of the way the system is set up, probably the easiest way for this to happen is to contact us directly or mail in the registration form.
