NOMINATION FOR LEE TOY AWARD

The Lee Toy Award is meant for someone that not only presents an exceptional
body of artistic work that may include books, printed material, exhibitions, and above all art
kites, but also embodies the zest for life and the desire to travel and spread the joy of kite
flying in the greater world as Lee did for so long.

Scott is well known for his particular style of kites and wind art that attracts the attention of
kite fliers and non-kite fliers alike.

My memories now take me to a time in the very early 90’s when I had the pleasure of
hosting Scott and his wife Mary Lynn in my studio. I was stunned with the shear amount of
sketches and design that he had done so far and so for three days or so we spent hours
talking about how to realize all he had into kites.

I cannot tell you what a pleasure and how rewarding it has been for me to assist Scott in
any way I can through the years but above all to see the amazing work he has created as
time has gone on. The patterns, shapes, and creatures he creates are bright, colorful, and
whimsical, and they speak to our imagination. His style is so unique, that regardless of the
shape, you know instantly that you are looking at a Scott Hampton piece.

In addition to taking his art on tour and displaying it at a multitude of events, Scott has
taken to teaching others how to use his techniques to create unique styles at several
workshops and clinics around the globe.

This award means the world to me personally as I had the pleasure of handing
this highly coveted award to four other equally deserving artist in the past, but also the fact
that I spent much time with Lee at festivals, at Reno Nevada in particular where I met Scott
for the first time. Having Lee as a mentor in those days meant the world to me. How things
come around the full circle sometimes.

It is because of his strong visual aesthetic, and the desire to share his craft and knowledge
with those around him, that I feel he is the perfect candidate for this honor.

I would like to nominate Scott Hampton for the Lee Toy Award at this time.
