NOMINATION FOR AKA’S
2023 ROBERT M INGRAHAM KITING COMMUNITY AWARD

For AKA’s 2023 Robert M Ingraham Kiting Community Award, it is our great pleasure to nominate Glen
and Tanna Haynes who, like Bob Ingraham, are avid kitefliers, kite makers, and constant contributors to
the fellowship of kite flying. Over lifetime careers in kiting, they exemplify outstanding volunteerism and
service to the American Kitefliers Association and, in the true spirit of Bob Ingraham, have given
unselfishly of their time to help the AKA and promote kiting in general.

Those of us attending AKA’s 2023 convention will personally and collectively benefit from their self-
inspired efforts to reinstall and reimagine the Peoples’ Choice awards and the Kite Art Gallery event.
Both these events are greatly enhanced by their new ideas and hard-working support. In addition, they
are designing and helping to produce new trophies for the awards for the competitions at our
convention.

These activities follow their decades of volunteering and participating in the world of kites. At the
national level, they have often been judges for kitemakers’ competitions, workshop presenters for our
conventions, and supporters wherever needed. In 2019, they stepped in on an emergency basis to run
AKA’s Kitemakers’ Competition and did a fantastic job. They have been the leaders of the Keystone
Kitefliers club and have supported the Maryland Kite Society by presenting workshops and running the
club’s auctions at MKS’s Winter Retreats. They support many different local festivals with their time and
leadership.

Tanna has won AKA’s Grand National Championship in kitemaking twice for her exquisite kites. Glen
and Tanna received the Steve Edeiken Award in 2001 and their kites were featured in AKA’s Kite Art
Gallery at the 2008 Gettysburg convention.

If you need someone to help with whatever tasks are needed to improve the world of kites, Glen and
Tanna are there, happy to work hard and to help make the program enjoyable for all. It’s always a true
pleasure to spend time with them, learn from them, and admire their wonderful kites. We know that
Bob Ingraham would be proud to have them recognized for generously working hard, sharing their
expertise and love of kites, and supporting his vision for all of us in the world of kiting.
