The 40th Annual Newport Kite Festival

For over forty years, kite fliers have been returning to Brenton Point for the same reason: the wind off Narragansett Bay doesn’t quit. This coastal headland delivers consistent ocean flow across wide-open grass, making it one of the premier flying sites on the East Coast and the backdrop for one of New England’s most enduring kite traditions.
The festival draws master fliers from across the country for two days of sport and show kite flying, with the full sweep of styles represented from precision ballet to giant show kites filling the sky over the Atlantic. Expect demonstrations, flying field access, and the kind of informal knowledge-sharing that only happens when fliers are side by side in good wind.
Kite-making workshops for children run throughout the weekend and the event is free and open to the public. 20,000 visitors over two days, many of them coming back year after year. Volunteer-run and community-rooted, it’s the kind of festival that exists because the kite community makes it happen.
