Kite enthusiasts and spectators unite for the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival! This cherished event offers a rich array of activities that cater to people of all ages and skill levels.

Take part in the “Best Kite Contest,” where all are welcome to showcase their creativity and flying prowess. Contestants can enter with either self-made or purchased kites, with judging based on the kite’s appearance, construction quality, and the participant’s ability to keep it airborne for five consecutive minutes at a height of 100 feet. Judging criteria encompass flight (sustaining flight for five minutes), structural design, craftsmanship, and visual appeal, with competitive divisions for Master, Novice, and Youth (ages 7-14), each earning trophies.

Participation in the Best Kite Contest is free and occurs daily. “Flight Training” sessions, led by experienced kite enthusiasts, will guide novice flyers in various aspects, from equipment selection to kite launching, flying techniques, and safety measures.

Families are encouraged to join kite-building workshops that include free materials and instructions. These workshops cover not only the art of crafting a kite but also delve into the aerodynamics of kite flying and safety precautions.

Experience the expertise of American Kite Association members from across the East Coast through captivating kite demonstrations, routines set to music, and the soaring presence of giant kites, including an impressive octopus kite. Kite vendors will be on-site, offering diverse kite varieties.

In addition to the thrill of the festival, daily awards will recognize the oldest and youngest kite fliers, the funniest kite, the most unusual kite, and the biggest kite.

Entrance to the kite festival is free

To start things off, we will be having a Night Fly on Friday the 3rd. After the Night Kite Fly, we soar into the next 2 days of festivities. Most meals are provided for flyers during the festival, and Saturday night, we will be having a party full of food, drinks and fun.

We are inviting kite fliers to demonstrate 2 and 4 line kite flying; and fly single line kites both small and large and extra-large for all the people visiting Va Beach. Please bring all your feathers and land art and make an awesome display. Fields will be roped off for safety. Music will be filling the air. We need volunteers to help Alexander with children’s kite building work shop and be available to teach kite flying and answer question.

Hotel rooms are offered but space is limited. Added we offer gas money to fliers coming from far away. So pack your bags, kites, and great gear for a rockin’ good time of kites in Virginia Beach.
