It’s About People

Most of us get involved in kiting because of people. Whether it was a parent helping us launch our first kite, or that friendly flier on the beach who let us hold the line…it almost always comes down to people inviting us to feel the wind. In Kiting, we stretch that experience by telling the stories of fliers; how they began, and what they are doing now.

It’s for Beginners

If you are new to kiting, not to worry, we’ll help you get flying. Your AKA membership can connect you with experienced fliers and trusted sources. And Kiting magazine will give you plans for making your first kite as well as inspiration for expanding your skills. Many of these plans are great for teaching kids how to make their first kite—something they will remember for a lifetime.

It’s a Global Community

People celebrate kites around the world. The AKA has many international members and Kiting includes articles which explore the many customs and traditions of various kite cultures. There’s beautiful art and cutting-edge technology to be found everywhere and Kiting gives you a view into that wide world.

It’s for Experienced Fliers

Once your kite skills hit a certain level, it’s not so much about reading kite plans as it is about learning what is going on in the kite community. Sometimes that comes in the form of a story, but often it comes from seeing a photo and being inspired to take someone’s idea to a new level. These are the two primary goals of Kiting—to build community and to inspire kite creativity.
