Recently we had a chance to sit down with Jon Trennepohl of Skyburner Kites. He has attended the convention more than once, and is looking forward to attending this year. You can find out more about Skyburner Kites at:
Tell me about yourself
I have been involved with kites for 28 years, kites took over my life in 1987 when I discovered how much fun it was to fly sport kites. I live in Plymouth Michigan where I own kite & Fun Things, Sky Burner kites and Sky Shark tubes along with my wife Marieanne.
How many conventions have you attended? 22
Who are you looking forward to reconnecting with at the convention? everybody
What is one activity that is a must do at the convention this year? Flying kites with friends .
Will you be competing? If so, in what? In the sport kite events, dual line, quad, also kite making.
You have been elected ‘king of the kite field’ for the day. What is your first decree? Changing the rule for having to qualify to fly indoors if you have competed in the past.
If you could give away one free pass to the convention, who would you give it to? To someone that wants to go and can’t afford it.
What advice do you have for someone who is a first time attendee? Don’t be afraid to talk to people, kite flyers are friendly .
Who would you say is your greatest influence in the kite world and why? Kite makers like Adrian Conn & Tim Benson , Just great artists in kiting. Adrian always pushed me to make the best quality kites possible.
What is something you think that everyone shouldn’t forget to pack and bring to the convention? That every day is a good day, while you can still fly a kite.
