Tell us a little bit about yourself: I am Dave Colbert, I have been flying and building kites since 1988. I now reside with my sweet wife in Ocean Park Washington. Not sure there is anything special about me but I love kites and love to show others how to build their own creations
Why did you join the AKA? To be a part of something bigger than me and to share the love of kiting
What is your favorite kite to fly? the Delta Conyne but I truly love them all
Where is your favorite place to fly? Any where there is clear blue sky but Ocean Park is a good place for me. there is a post where the eagles sit and watch us fly
If you could fly with anyone dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you fly? Not sure on this but Amy Barsalow(hope I spelled that right) from Canada, he made some truly great creations even if his sewing was a bit rough or perhaps Bill Lockart from Texas. He also made some great kites
What is your favorite event or kite festival? I guess my favorite event would be Brookings Oregon but Damam Saudi Arabia was wonderful
What is one thing you wish more people knew about kite flying? I wish more people could experience the peace and joy that can come from flying kites
What is the best color combination for a kite? Anything that is bright and colorful, not real keen on the greys or darker colors
You have been elected ruler of the kite field for a day. What is your first decree? I want to see a kite in your hands and smile on your face
What is one funny trait about you that most people do not know? I guess it would be all the characters I have trapped inside me. I rarely let them out and usually just for Keli because I love to hear her laugh
Who would you say is your greatest influence in the kite world and why? It would most definitely be Ron Gibian. I felt left on the outside with all the top dogs back in the day but Ron opened his arms and invited me inside. He is the guy that taught me applique. Now that I am not strapped to a retail store I have released that pent up energy and I think I have surprised a few people. One being me
