HISTORY OF KITES
The earliest written accounts of kite flying were the exploits of the Chinese general Han Hsin, Han Dynasty (206 B.C.-220 A.D.).
WHAT IS A KITE?
A kite is an object that uses the force of wind to fly. Its flight is controlled by a flying line or lines. The technical term for a kite is “tethered aerodyne,” with “tether” meaning a line or lines connected to the kite and “aerodyne” meaning something that flies.
HOW DO KITES FLY?
A kite will fly if it finds enough wind to lift it and keep it in the sky. Successful kite flight depends upon establishing and maintaining a balance between the upward force of lift, the downward force of gravity, and the backwards force of drag.
